Food in Barcelona

Before I get to talking about the food, let me just say that everyone eats on a different schedule. They eat so much later, that they even add in another meal! They have breakfast around 9-11am, lunch around 2-4pm, and dinner around 9-11pm! They add in an “afternoon snack” around 6-7 just to keep going!

Most things are offered in much smaller portions as well. I mean, yes, I am a fan of tapas – but some of them are just ridiculously small. It’s all about finding the right places; however, in that search for the right place we went to some very wrong restaurants. I ordered a bruschetta assuming it would be similar to bruschetta bread – boy was I wrong. I paid 4 euros for two cherry tomatoes and two balls of mozzarella cheese on a stick! I was not impressed!  But then we did also discover a restaurant that is buffet style & you take as many tapas as you wish, and just pay 2 euros each when you leave! I recommend asking locals what their favourites are! Especially the cab drivers, they love to talk!

In my broken Spanish, we got talking to a cab driver & he suggested El Glop for some traditional Spanish food – Paella. We took his advice, and it was absolutely delicious! We got a mushroom & veggie rice paella along with some sangria. However, as we were leaving and talking about how much we enjoyed our first dish of paella, the server informed us that real paella is seafood – we just had a rice dish. Needless to say, we went back and got the traditional stuff!
