University in France

So today was supposed to be my first class at l’ecole de management – Cross Cultural Issues in Human Resource Management. Starting at 8am. So I managed to get myself out of bed (after a night involving a bit of wine) and went to class – to wait. We waited from 8 to 9 before we finally gave up and went home. Apparently the professor had forgotten that class started today and had not shown up. This does not seem to faze anyone who is used to French University. Our school even has a board where they update all the classes that will take place everyday. Because it is so common for professors to cancel. In comparison to Canadian Universities, where we have class each week at the same time, and it is considered rude to arrive late, the French attitude is drastically more laid-back. Personally I hate when people are late, and think they are wasting my time. But I think that after four months in France, I will be much more relaxed! And so I have not had a class yet. I am looking forward to my first class on the 24th – maybe my professor will actually show up!
