The Perfect Backpack

Written by: James Dempsey

Since I decided I was going onto exchange, I knew that finding the perfect backpack for my vagabond travelling adventures was going to be key. And so the quest began. A lot of Googling, trips to Mountain Equipment Co-op and the likes, and I still wasn’t finding what I had imagined. I didn’t want the expensive nylon super fancy bag that sales people kept pushing on me, but rather something canvas that I could sow patches onto for the countries I visited. Finally, my mother found an army surplus shop on University and Queen that had exactly what I wanted. I took it home, and filled it up. Then I did some research.

When planning to travel light and cheap read airline policies carefully regarding the dimensions of carry-on luggage. Ryanair, for instance, allows for a single  carry-on bag with maximum weight of 10kg. So when looking for that perfect backpack for those last minute adventures keep in mind baggage limits because additional bags can cost up to 30 euros on discount airlines like Ryanair (twice the price of my ticket).
